Bout — Menu Bar Timer
Last updated: April 2026
Bout does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Period.
Data Collection
Bout collects no data from you. Specifically:
- No analytics or telemetry. Bout does not track how you use the app, which features you use, or how often you use them.
- No personal information. Bout does not ask for, store, or transmit your name, email, location, or any other personal identifier.
- No usage data. Bout does not phone home, ping a server, or send any network requests — with the sole exception of Apple's StoreKit framework for in-app purchases, which communicates directly with Apple's servers under Apple's own privacy policy.
- No third-party SDKs. Bout contains no analytics frameworks, crash reporters, attribution trackers, or advertising libraries.
Data Storage
All data Bout creates stays on your Mac:
- Timer event log — A local JSONL file in your Application Support directory. Contains timestamps and durations of your timer sessions. Never transmitted. You can view, export, or delete it from Settings.
- Presets and preferences — Stored in local UserDefaults. Never transmitted.
- Timer state — Persisted locally so timers survive app restarts. Never transmitted.
In-App Purchases
Bout offers an optional Pro upgrade through Apple's App Store. This transaction is handled entirely by Apple. Bout does not operate its own payment server and has no access to your payment information. See Apple's privacy policy for details on how Apple handles purchase data.
Third-Party Services
None. Bout makes zero network requests on its own. The only network communication is Apple's StoreKit framework checking purchase entitlements, which is handled by the operating system.
Children's Privacy
Bout does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at bout.dev/privacy with a new "last updated" date.
